Fundamentals of Integrated Curriculum (an Interactive Session)

Facilitated by Guest Speakers Prof. Dr. Tanzeela Khalid & Prof. Dr. Sumera Ehsan

The interactive session on “Fundamentals of Integrated Curriculum” held at AFMDC Lecture Hall # 6 on 12th November 2022 from 09:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This session was organized by Department of Medical Education for sensitization of faculty related to upcoming shift from subject based to integrated curriculum.

The session started with the recitation of Holy Quran, after recitation Dr. Uzma Sagheer (Assistant Prof. Community Medicine) welcomed the Worthy Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed, DGM (Admin & HR) Mr. Aftab Ahmad Khan, Honorable Guest Speakers and respectable Faculty members. Then she called Dr. Ayesha Sadiq (HOD Medical Education Department) on stage for introductory note regarding the significance of session and its need in coming days. She concluded her note by calling the Worthy Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed on stage for the welcome address. After the formal welcome and introduction the proper session initiated by honorable Guest Speakers/ Facilitators Dr. Tanzeela Khalid & Dr. Sumera Ehsan. They started with a thought provoking activity and asked the participants to give their point of view regarding “Fundamentals of Integrated Curriculum” why we need to implement integrated curriculum? And any queries related to the topic. After this group activity Dr. Sumera Ehsan compiled all the responses collected from participants. Meanwhile Dr. Tanzeela Khalid presented the fundamental concepts of integrated curriculum including “Harden’s integration Ladder” different Models of integration e.g. “SPICE Model” etc. and also explained them with reference to our local context. After the presentation, both of them answered the queries of the participants one by one and cleared their concepts regarding integration of curriculum. The interactive question answer session concluded in a productive discussion and helped to neutralize the resistance against integration of curriculum.

At the end Vote of thanks was paid by Worthy Principal AFMDC and souvenir was given to the Guest Speakers/Facilitators. Tea and refreshment to all participants and guest was served at the end of the session.
