Workshop on Medical Writing and Peer Review

Department of Medical Education conducted two days workshop on Medical Writing and Peer Review on 21st and 22nd February 2022 in Conference room, AFMDC as part of faculty development program.

  • The facilitator was Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid a known journalist and Chief Editor of PJMS.
  • Farah Amir (HOD Physiology), Dr. Shireen Jawed (Associate Professor Physiology, Chairperson ERC, Member of Editorial Board) and Dr. Ayesha Sadiq (Senior Demonstrator DME) was the coordinators of the workshop.

Objectives of the workshop:

The objectives of the workshop was to:

  • Enable the participants to learn the basic concepts of research.
  • Obtain essential Medical Writing skills need to write and develop publication.
  • To learn the use of Peer Review strategies for improving the quality of publication. 

Day 1

The first day of workshop begins with the recitation of the Holy Quran done by Dr. Sajjad Ghani (Assistant Professor Biochemistry). After that the workshop started formally. Principal AFMDC Professor Dr. Noor Akbar Sial and DGM administration& HR, Mr. Aftab Ahmad Khan attended the opening ceremony of workshop for encouragement of participants. The facilitator Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid started the workshop with his introduction.  After the introduction he gave a comprehensive presentation on Medical Writing and highlighted its importance. During the presentation he kept the participants busy in interactive discussion regarding the topic. He also gave multiple activities during the presentations for active participation of members. Tea was served in the session. The first session of the day one ended before lunch. After lunch photo session of group was done. The second session started after lunch in which the facilitator gave small presentation regarding Medical Practice Ethics.

Day 2

Day 2 begins with the presentation by the facilitator Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid on Peer Review. The facilitator gave multiple hands on activities individually and in groups regarding Peer Review to the participants. The purpose of the activities was to flourish the skills of participants for Peer Review. Tea was served during the session. The facilitator winded up with the comprehensive discussion about common mistakes during Medical Writing for publication. He assessed the knowledge of participants by presenting them with a presentation on common mistakes and allowed the participants to correct them. At the end of the session certificate distribution ceremony took place and certificates to participants were awarded by the Principal AFMDC, DGM Admin &HR and facilitator Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid. Certificates of appreciation were distributed to the coordinators and organizers. A souvenir was presented to Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid by Principal AFMDC and DGM Administration & HR in regard of his services for JAFMDC. He was also awarded the certificate of appreciation for facilitating this workshop at AFMDC. At the end, the lunch was served in the honor of respected guest facilitator.
