Seminar on “Breast Cancer Management”

Seminar was started with the Tilawat e Quran by Qari Rehan Waheed. The main theme of the seminar was Pink Ribbon - Management and Awareness of Breast Cancer. The host, Dr. Anam Azam gave the brief introduction of Breast Cancer. Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer in Asia with every 9th woman at high risk of having breast cancer at some point in her life. Prevalence of breast cancer is maximum amongst all the cancers in Pakistan i.e. 38.5%. Every year 40,000 women are killed with breast cancer in Pakistan and approximately 90,000 new cases are diagnosed, however the number of unreported cases are expected to be much more.

 

First speaker, Dr Sarwat gave the presentation on breast health awareness. She told that early detection can save lives, she discussed about controllable and uncontrollable risk factors, things to remember, and trouble signs should not be ignored.

Then second speaker, Dr Saira Javed nicely elaborated that breast cancer awareness is an effort to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of breast cancer through education on symptoms and treatment.The goal of this campaign is to raise the public's “brand awareness" for breast cancer, its detection, its treatment, and the need for a reliable, permanent cure. In many countries the month of October is celebrate as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM).

Third speaker, Dr Munnaza Azam classified the Pathogenesis and histopathological diagnosis of carcinoma of breast, types of biopsy procedures and morphology of breast carcinomas. She also elaborated the molecular subtypes of breast cancer, prognostic and predictive factors and clinical stages of breast cancer.

Then Forth speaker,Dr Zakariya demonstrated the diagnosis of breast cancer and its different types included Mammography, Sonographic, Breast Biopsy, evaluation of other breast symptoms and management of early Breast Carcinoma. He also presentedthe surgical therapy of breast carcinoma, Adjuvant Systemic Therapy, Chemotherapy, Endocrine therapy, Hormonal therapy, Biological therapy.

Then guest speaker,Prof Dr Anjum Mehdielaborated the Radiological Approach for Malignant Breast Lesions, Mortality of Breast Cancer, Benign Vs Malignant and recommendations for screening.

The guest speaker, Prof. Dr. Ijaz Shah presented the Adjuvant Treatment
in Early & Locally Advanced Breast Cancer, Personalizing treatment to the specific tumor,
Clinical Rationale for Preoperative Chemotherapy,
Advantages of Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy and Factors Influencing Decision to use Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy in Operable Breast Cancer. After scientific session, there was an interactive session between the speakers and participants.

Then Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Walee Muhammad Saghir in his speech appreciated the speakers who nicely covered the all aspects for awareness and management of breast cancer. He also paid thanks to Principal and management for invitation on this seminar

In the end Principal, Prof Dr Qaiser Mehmood paid vote of thanks to all participants and guests. He also appreciated the HOD Medical education, Prof Dr Quddus Ur Rehman and his team for organizing such an informative seminar.

Then he presented the college souvenir and shield to the chief guest, the certificates and shields were given to the guest speakers and certificates were given to the speakers. At the end of the session, Hi-tea was served for the guests and faculty of the college.
